About Tomorrow Starts Today

Understand what we're all about.

Tomorrow Starts Today is an environmental project developed by APJT member Mohamed Amine Kouki and executed by Austrian volunteer Niklas Piringer. APJT (Association Progression des Jeunes Tunisiens) is an NGO based in the south of Tunis that strives toward the betterment of Tunisian society through an increase in youth action. The organization serves as a hub for creative and motivated Tunisian youth, who have bright ideas on how to combat societal problems and truly unite a community.

Communities, cities, and entire countries worldwide are all confronted by one huge factor: environmental problems. If we want to have beautiful surroundings, a happier community, and if we just want to leave our world a better place for the next generation, then we have to respect the environment and make every single effort possible to improve the environmental state of our surroundings - be it through planting trees, reducing litter, recycling our waste, or even emitting fewer greenhouse gases.

Tomorrow Starts Today works to solve such problems and nurture environmental awareness in El Mourouj, the fast-growing suburb in the south of Tunis that this project is centered on. El Mourouj is in great need of environmental work: Only founded 27 years ago, the city has blown up to a total population of over 110,000 extremely quickly. The city is still growing, and new parts are being built every day. With such a fast development, the environment can quickly be forgotten. Recycling, waste management, proper care of green spaces, and environmental education are some of the main challenges that El Mourouj faces in the future. And working on overcoming these challenges is what Tomorrow Starts Today is really all about.

APJT member Mohamed Amine Kouki, who is very aware of these problems, proposed the project Tomorrow Starts Today and developed its idea. To achieve great results and make a difference, the project gained an international aspect and was initiated in cooperation with the Erasmus+ European Voluntary Service (EVS) network. Through the EVS, Austrian-American volunteer Niklas Piringer has come to El Mourouj to work on making Tomorrow Starts Today a reality. He will be working in El Mourouj from August 2018 to July 2019, with the ultimate goal of making an environmental difference in the community. Working today, for a better tomorrow.
